Jaspé (HAS - peh) is an ancient weaving technique in which the threads are naturally resist-dyed before placing them on a backstrap or treadle loom to create precise patterns in the finished weaving. It has been practiced in many countries for thousands of years. Guatemala is one of the few areas in the world where this intricate textile art is still being enthusiastically practiced. Jaspé is also known as Ikat in other parts of the world.
